Good bye university, hello big world!

Journalism degree in hand, I'm going out to the world as a professional journalist to write, shoot and editing photos and videos, design and utilize social media in order to share stories with people. I'm especially interested in health and science, travel, education, animals and the arts.

At the University of Florida's College of Journalism and Communications, I honed my writing and storytelling skills and gained an interest in multimedia. Through courses in video, web design, photography and Adobe Flash I developed visual storytelling skills that I am eager to put to use.

I love to travel and have been fortunate that my time as a student journalist allowed me to see a little bit of the world. In high school I attended conferences in Chicago and New York as editor of the school paper, and in May 2009 I went with the college to France for a month-long study abroad program. It was wonderful opportunity to practice my French. A friend and I made a weekend trip to Rome which was a lesson in independence.

While in Gainesville, Fla., I interned atINsite Magazine and The Gainesville Sun's Gainesville Magazine. They were great opportunities to gain experience in the field, but also to explore the city I am too busy to enjoy during the school year. INsite introduced me to Twitter and HootSuite and I've been hooked ever since.

My internship at the University of Florida's Health Science and Communications Center was an exciting and challenging opportunity to write about science and medicine.

During my last semester at UF, my magazine management classmates and I created a prototype of a health and wellness publication targeted at college students. Our project was selected as best in our class and was sent on to the The Magazine Division of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication's Student Division Contest. It would be a dream to actually launch the magazine, but in the meantime I'd like to work at an established health magazine.

I'm currently seeking internships or jobs outside of Florida in magazines, online media and social media. Eventually I'd like to spend two years in the Mississippi Teacher Corps.

In my free time I enjoy watching French films and Gator basketball, hanging out with the family dog, dancing, scrapbooking and eating. I'm always reading something, and one of my favorite writers is David Sedaris.
